Only a few short weeks following our New Zealand move, Auckland hosted the 2015 FIFA Under-20 Soccer World Cup finals. It was a dreadful day! The weather forecast stated it would rain but there was no way to predict it would not let up for the duration of the games.
The tickets were purchased last-minute so the seat options were limited. The only available area had uncovered seating and the rain ponchos were not enough to keep us dry. The 3rd hour of non-stop drizzle mixed with down pours was enough to throw in the towel (or at least find a dry one). We headed back to the hotel for dinner and a hot shower!
I was unable to capture many pictures for fear of my camera would get wet.
The girls still loved being outside and as Ella said “watching the soccer ball”.
The hotel bar in front of a warm fireplace created the perfect atmosphere to see the championship game. The final score had Serbia beating Brazil 2-1 following a couple of overtime rounds. Next stadium event I will definitely pay more for the covered seats!
