The next morning we were headed back to Hamilton. I had marked a few things on my map to stop by on the way home. The glow worm caves were something I have been interested in doing since we arrived in New Zealand. The caves in Waitomo are the more popular tourist caves. I read the Kawiti Caves in the Waiomio Valley were really nice and less traveled. We headed about a half hour out of town and waited for the next tour. There were only two other people on our tour so we were able to slowly walk through and visit with the tour guide.
There were no cameras allowed in the caves so I snapped a couple pictures outside the grounds and then put my camera away. The cave was beautiful and the glow worms are amazing in the dark. I look forward to going to some of the bigger caves in Waitomo at some point.
The walk back from the cave was beautiful as well.
We stopped for lunch shortly after the tour and then Ella fell asleep for over 3 hours. I scratched the remaining items off my list and we headed home feeling like we did all we could do this week. We were exhausted but it was a perfect week (despite the weather). I look forward to our next adventure!
