The Mangapohue Natural Bridge is roughly a 30 minute car ride from Waitomo Village, home of the New Zealand’s famous glowworm caves. This was a surprise find for us on our way to the Marokopa Falls. We learned early on that these green sign in New Zealand usually result in something amazing!
Only a short 10 minute walk from the nearest car park lead us to this 17 meter tall natural bridge. The boardwalk path crosses over the Mangapohue stream before entering an impressive gorge. We crossed over a swing bridge and continued towards a flight of stairs.
The wooden staircase leads up to the top platform for a closer look at the limestone archway. The full view of the gorge can be captured from the top. The trail continues on through farmland or drive 5 minutes down Te Anga road to arrive at Marokopa Falls and Piripiri Caves.
I sometimes enjoy these little stops along the way more than the big tourist destinations. This country is one of you have to visit to fully grasp the beauty!
