Sombreros Mexican Restaurant

My birthday fell on the same day that our container arrived from New Zealand. Due to all the chaos in our house with unopened boxes and furniture not put together, we went out for a quick dinner.   Anytime I find a new Mexican restaurant I must give it a go!  Located only 5 minutes from our new house is Sombreros Mexican Restaurant. (Though a note on the door said they were closing their restaurant this month)  So sad!

I started the night with a strawberry margarita and it was nice after such a long day!

Then we ordered the trio of dips with salsa, chili con queso and guacamole.  I have to admit that this part was a bit disappointing to me.  Coming from Texas I love having spice in all my Mexican food.  The salsa had more of a sweet taste which is similar to other places we have tried.  The guacamole to me tasted like lime more than anything else.  I prefer my guacamole where I add chili peppers for an added kick!  The chili con queso was better and my favorite of the 3. They were nice about adding additional corn chips once we ran out.  Other restaurants have charged us $2 for refills in the past.

Next up was the main course.  I ordered a tostada and chicken enchilada.  The main course had a nice flavor and better spiced. The table next to us ordered the Fajita’s for two and this would be my choice if we return before closure.  They arrived at the table still sizzling and smelled amazing.

Overall we had a really nice evening and enjoyed a bit of flavor from back home.  Too bad they are closing their restaurant this month.
